What the trust does
- We have given support funding for four years for a research manager at
King's College Dental School, London, studying oral cancer in the under 45s.
- We distribute information and advise individuals and organisations on oral
cancer, without charge.
- We collaborate with newspapers and magazines to increase public awareness
of the disease.
- We work with health professionals to encourage sharing of best practice.
- We give help with direct patient support.
- In 2000, the Trust was instrumental in forming "The Scottish Oral
Cancer Action Group".

- The Trust was the first to suggest to SIGN (Scottish Intercollegiate Guideline Network) a guideline on oral cancer. The Trust also contributed, as a patient representative, to the Guidelines Development Group when it was produced in 2006.
- We set up and funded in 2008/2009 a pilot research project, “The Experiences of Younger Oral cancer Patients in Scotland”. This was carried out in conjunction with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board, University of Bath and Kings College, London.
- In 2010 The Trust is initiating and funding an examinable module (for Continuing Professional Development) on Oral Cancer and the Younger Patient with BMJ Education.

How can you help?
- By fund-raising.
- 200 Club. We are proposing to set up a 200 club where for a £50 yearly subscription, supporters can be entered into prize draws. Many organisations have found this an effective fundraising venture. For information e-mail Trust Project Manager Liz Grant or contact us directly.
- By increasing awareness.
- By donating. ‘Gift Aid’ adds 25% to your donation if you are a UK tax payer, with no cost to yourself. If you are not already registered with us for Gift Aid, please contact us. Alternatively you can donate through the Ben Walton Trust justgiving page.
Anyone wishing to support The Trust, or be updated on our activities, please contact us and we will store your e-mail address for mailouts.
